Every year, a large number of students from developing countries in various parts of the world, including Vietnam, work hard to get scholarships to prestigious universities in search of quality education. The most popular destinations for these students are Australia, the United States and The United Kingdom. It is a well-known fact that the quality of education provided in these countries is excellent; but wherever we choose to go, living and studying in another country can help us develop important competences that can be useful in future jobs.

If I win a scholarship to study in developed countries, I will take a course in Computer Science at a famous university in the United States. I choose this field because Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Vietnam still has many problems that we have to think of. At present, when the world is turning itself into a new era of knowledge-based economy, ICT is needed as an effective tool for the development of all nations. However, the ICT labor  force in Vietnam can be characterized as small, inexperienced and inadequate. In fact, Vietnamese engineers are rated on par with their counterparts in other countries for technical aptitude especially in application development and maintenance, but fail to make the grade in terms of software design and English fluency.

To take full advantage of this scholarship, I think I have to try my best and gain as much knowledge and experience as I can. The first thing I need to achieve during this time is mastering the English language because there is no better and more effective way to learn a language than to be immersed in a culture that uses the language we are learning. The second thing I will have after living here is personal growth. Studying abroad is an experience which matures me personally and intellectually. Going abroad to study is the first time I will be away from home, friends and family. Therefore, I will change the way of thinking and living that encourages growth and independence. Thirdly, a famous university with quality courses and well-qualified teachers can help me broaden my intellectual horizons, deepen my knowledge and understanding of complex issues. Last but not least, studying abroad gives me a golden opportunity to enhance my employment prospects. Through an employer's eyes, a student who has studied abroad is self-motivated, independent, willing to embrace challenges, and able to cope with diverse problems and situations. In sum, after the time I study and live in a foreign country, I believe that I can gain strengthened foreign language fluency, enhanced  cultural awareness and understanding of customs, increased confidence in working with other people from other cultures, independence in dealing with unfamiliar situations and improved personal skills in organizational management, patience and flexibility…

Some students adapt quickly to life in a foreign country, and may be unwilling to return home at the end of their education. This would be a loss not just to the family, but to the country as well. However, in the future, I will return to work at home after finishing the course at the university. I hope I will have an opportunity to work at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. I think that this is the place I can contribute my efforts and knowledge I study from foreign country to help my country develop.

In conclusion, winning a scholarship to study in a developed country is a wish of many students. And if we are the winners, we should try our best to study hard and work for our country in future.

Every developed country does need talents and talents origins from education. So education is an important element in constructing a prosperous nation. Our country-Viet Nam has lots of geniuses but our training system hasn’t yet exploited their potentiality as well as created an effective surrounding for their development. Therefore, studying abroad is always students’ wish because we will equip ourselves with speciality,   knowledge, communication skill and work experience after that. However, we cannot afford to it when our country still witnesses the poor, unemployment and social evils. The only way which costs us no money but achieves our dream is scholarship. Having experienced many tests and got demanded achievement, we’ll be awarded scholarship from foreign Universities, colleges or organizations…

It is known that studying in developed countries is too wonderful an opportunity to miss. First, our English will improve promptly by speaking with native speakers who are willing to correct our grammar, pronunciation, even accent fault. Second, we teach ourselves to adapt to advanced methodologies such as group learning, language laboratory, teaching practice…Definitely, we will make progress when exchanging study experience among our partners and learning with practice. Third, knowledge of society, culture, history will be plentiful. For example, etiquette principle at party, ways of shaking hand, manners and customs of every foreign country is a limitless source to our learning. Patterns on original architecture of Pyramid, Eiffel Tower, etc, enlarge our line of vision outside our own country. Indeed, scholarship from developed countries may help us become factors contributing effectively to promote the development of our society, community in Viet Nam.

If I were to have a scholarship like this, I would make the most effort of it, especially from developed countries. First, I chose my favorite profession at that university so as to pursuit my dream and expectation of dedicating for out country. After that, I would apply myself more to my assignment, courses as well as do term-test well. The entire free time I would spend in library and taking part in extra-curricular activities. In developed countries, helping the poor, taking care of handicapped, doing volunteer, is considered the most valuable experience. Therefore, I would exert myself to combine study and rub shoulders with reality. I would never allow myself gluing books only, instead I’d rather did part-time job. Not only money but life experience would I have to serve my study and nourish virtue for my future afterwards. Second, I would try to integrate in that surrounding with patience and iron will. Learning in group, asking professors whenever I didn’t understand lessons, writing reports, doing research, analyzing situation…, that is, I would endeavor to get used to. More importantly, I wouldn’t stop inquiring and observing around. Various accents of English, slang and even body language when they are talking each other, manner of greeting, clothes … would interest me very much. Third, I would always catch up with up-date news around the world so that I wouldn’t fall behind in modern technology time. For instance, election in the USA, the incoming president or political problems would be my concern. As for me, both books and social knowledge are very essential when we make our way in the world.

If possible, I would both attend courses and practice in a company relevance to my specialty- a managing director in the future. Consequently, it would be effective to put learned theory into practice. I would learn how to please customers, treat with staff and senior appropriately and solve difficulty on my own. More importantly, I would inquire way of working in foreign countries which is a little different from Viet Nam. They are always punctual, prestigious, influential and implementing criticism and self-criticism. Therefore, I would retransmit those good qualities to my worker as well as others after returning and setting up a small company in Viet Nam. Thanks to the scholarship, I would have chance to train as a versatile intelligentsia to help building a powerful, rich Viet Nam. Since the major aim of scholarship is to create not only good but talented citizens attending to their country. It shouldn’t be said that we receive the scholarship because of money but for our dedication to development of specialty sphere, office, country. As a result, I wouldn’t hesitate to manifest my dream, ambition in such a wonderful surrounding like developed countries.

In conclusion, scholarship is really precious and esteemed. Needless to say, scholarship is like key to success as for those who know to grasp time, opportunity and take full advantage of it. In my opinion, getting a scholarship is hard but using it wisely is even harder. Therefore, we must improve ourselves by studying and experiencing. Remember that studying abroad isn’t a heaven but an environment to show talent. Above all, we depend on scholarships to develop both our future and prosperity of our country. Let’s contribute to our Viet Nam as much as we can!

Task:

Studying abroad is the dream of most of students in the world. However, the most important thing of gaining a scholarship is how we can put all the knowledge we have acquired into practice. If I had an opportunity to study in a developed country, I would try as much as I could to make the best of it. This would give me not only a wide range of knowledge but also many good chances for my future career, therefore I could partly  contribute the development of my country.

To take advantage of  the scholarship, I would have to study really studiously. This would help me get a great deal of updated and progressive knowledge, which would broaden my own insight about the subject I major in. Studying hard is the key to success, especially in developed countries, where we have to compete to survive. I would have to try hard as much as possible, otherwise, I would be left behind. Beside chances to learn in good educational environment with excellent students, the scholarship would bring me a lot of disadvantages, so I would have to equip myself with courage and strong will to overcome all difficulties in both studying and daily life. It would take time to adopt to the fast pace of life in a developed country and the method of studying in the university, thus, if I lost my heart when facing up with hardships, I would become a loser and couldn’t continue my abroad studying. It would be also necessary for me to be independent in every activity because I had to live and work in a strange land without parents’ arms.

Not only would I learn the subject of my specialization, I would explore the culture of the country I was studying because this would help me catch on the way of thinking of foreigners. In drawing up a contract, intergrating the culture of partners is an important factor to get success. Furthermore, this would also improve my skill of communication, especially in speaking language. However, beside good things, the culture of developed countries, especially western culture also brings us bad effects. Therefore I had to be aware of the risks I might come up against and be ready with positive solutions. I might also ask for help from older Vietnamese students in my university or take part in Vietnamese community to get useful advise about life and ways of studying effectively in a new country. On the other hand, I would do everything in my power to introduce Vietnamese culture to people in the country I study. This would help to spread Vietnamese culture and make people have a precise outlook about Vietnam. Furthermore, by this way, I could be less homesick and never forget my duty to study hard before returning to my homeland and contributing what I study to its development.

After studying overseas, I would come back to Vietnam to apply what I learn to the build-up business of my country. I would devote not only my knowledge but also my youth to the development of Vietnam. I intend to enter a economy and trade university, so obtaining a scholarship to study abroad would be a golden opportunity for me to widen my knowledge. Nowadays, economy is one of  “hot” brand of learning because of its enormous impacts on the social life. With the knowledge I study, I hope that I could improve the procedure of working in banks to make it more convenient and faster. I would bring in policies to help poor people have capital to do their own business. I would be always ready to work as a consultant for the government to advise them on effective solutions to restrict economic crisis, etc.

Studying abroad brings us many benefits. It gives us not only precious knowledge but also chances of promotion. From our own success, we can make up a great success of our homeland. If I had a chance to learn in a foreign country, I would seize this opportunity and try my best to make my dream come true. No matter what difficulties I might face up with, I would be all ready to overcome them because I know that what I study would be useful to the development of my country – Vietnam.
